What is a farmhouse style home?
Originally a term that referred to the rural setting and farm function of the home, the term farmhouse is used widely today to refer to a specific style of home and even the type of decor within a home, though we’ll stick to focusing on the architecture style. Farmhouse style homes are characterized by wide front porches and often a partially wrap-around porch. Due to the prominence of the front porch, farmhouse style homes typically have several columns that can be simple or have additional accents, such as stone, to further accentuate the facade of the home. The farmhouse style also lends itself to gables within the roof, the triangular section of a wall between roof pitches that forms an ‘A’ shape. Many modern farmhouse styles have multiple gables for architectural interest.
